NOM    = Norma Oficial Mexicana = Official Mexican Standard
030    = the number of this NOM
STPS    = Secretaría de Trabajo y Previsión Social
= Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare
2006    = The year this NOM was published in the DOF

 (published in the Official Daily of the Federation Oct. 19, 2006 – effective  May 19, 2007)

This standard is effective May 19, 2007 and requires businesses to have plans and procedures in place for preventive medicine, emergency situations, and risk assessment.

If your company has a Health and Safety program certified by the STPS, you are considered to be in compliance with this standard.

Establecer los lineamientos para desarrollar y promover los Servicios Preventivos de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo y las acciones necesarias para que, con su aplicación en el centro de trabajo, se promueva un ambiente laboral seguro y sano que prevenga accidentes y enfermedades de trabajo.

To establish the guidelines for developing and promoting the Preventive Services of Occupational Health and Safety and the actions necessary so that, with their application in the workplace, a safe and healthy work environment is promoted that prevents occupational accidents and illnesses.
