that establishes the characteristics, the procedure of identification, classification, and the lists of hazardous wastes. (published June 23, 2006 – effective Sept. 23, 2006) This NOM cancels and replaces NOM-052-
SEMARNAT-1993, Until Sept. 23 you will receive both NOM's with the purchase of either.

This NOM contains a step by step procedure for defining a waste as hazardous.

0. Introduction

La Ley General del Equilibrio Ecológico y la Protección al Ambiente, define como residuos peligrosos a todos aquellos residuos que por sus características corrosivas, reactivas, explosivas, tóxicas, inflamables y biológico-infecciosas, que representan un peligro para el equilibrio SEMARNATógico o el ambiente; mismos que serán manejados en términos de la propia ley, su Reglamento y normas oficiales mexicanas que expida la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales previa opinión de diversas dependencias que tengan alguna injerencia en la materia, correspondiéndole a la citada SEMARNAT su regulación y control.

 

 

The General Law of Ecological Equilibrium and the Protection of the Environment, defines hazardous wastes as all those wastes that by their corrosive, reactive, explosive, toxic, flammable, and biological-infectious characteristics represent a danger to the SEMARNATogical equilibrium or the environment; the same that will be handled under the terms of the same law, its Regulation, and Official Mexican Standards that are issued by the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources after opinions from various departments that have some authority in the matter, the corresponding regulation and control is the responsibility of SEMARNAT.
