cancels and replaces NOM-052-
SEMARNAT-1993, Until Sept. 23 you will receive both
NOM's with the purchase of either.
This NOM contains a step by step procedure
for defining a waste as hazardous.

|
El crecimiento demográfico, la modificación de las
actividades productivas y el incremento en la
demanda de los servicios, han rebasado la capacidad
del ambiente para asimilar la cantidad de residuos
que genera la sociedad; por lo que es necesario
contar con sistemas de manejo integral de residuos
adecuados con la realidad de cada localidad. Por tal
motivo y como parte de la política ambiental que
promueve el Gobierno Federal, se pretende a través
de la presente Norma Oficial Mexicana (NOM), la cual
regula la disposición final de los residuos sólidos
urbanos y de manejo especial, que los sitios
destinados a la ubicación de tal infraestructura,
así como su diseño, construcción, operación,
clausura, monitoreo y obras complementarias; se
lleven a cabo de acuerdo a los lineamientos técnicos
que garanticen la protección del ambiente, la
preservación del
equilibrio ecológico
y de los recursos naturales, la
minimización de los efectos contaminantes provocados
por la inadecuada disposición de los residuos
sólidos urbanos y de manejo especial y la protección
de la salud pública en general.

The demographic growth, the modification of
manufacturing activities and the increase in the
demand for services, have passed the capacity of the
environment to assimilate the quantity of wastes
generated by society; for which it is necessary to
have systems of integral handling of wastes adequate
for the reality of each location. For which reason
and as a part of the environmental policy promoted
by the Federal Government, it is intended through
this Official Mexican Standard, which regulates the
final disposal of solid urban wastes and waste
requiring special handling, that the sites
designated for the location of this infra-structure,
as well as its design, construction, operation,
closure, monitoring, and complementary works; are
carried out according to the technical guidelines
that guarantee the protection of the environment,
the preservation of the ecological equilibrium and
natural resources, the minimization of the
contaminating effects caused by the inadequate
disposal of urban solid wastes and wastes requiring
special handling and the protection of the public
health in general. |

La presente Norma Oficial Mexicana establece las
especificaciones de selección del sitio, el diseño,
construcción, operación, monitoreo, clausura y obras
complementarias de un sitio de disposición final de
residuos sólidos urbanos y de manejo especial.

specifications of environmental protection for the
selection of the site, design, construction,
operation, monitoring, closure, and complementary
works of a site for final disposal of urban solid
wastes and wastes requiring special handling.
