CNA    = CNA = National Commission of Water
1996    = The year this NOM was published in the DOF

*Published in January 14, 2009 in the DOF.  The CNA = "Comisión Nacional de Agua" (National Water Commission is changed to CONAGUA = "Comité Consultivo Nacional de Normalización del Sector Agua", National Consultative Committee of Standardization of the Water Sector  - CNA is changed to CONAGUA in all the water standards.

0. Introduction

La necesidad de obtener agua en cantidades económicamente explotables ha originado la perforación de aproximadamente 140,000 pozos distribuidos en 460 acuíferos. Cuando los pozos para extracción de agua están mal construidos, ofrecen  una vía de contaminación entre el ambiente externo y los acuíferos.

The necessity of obtaining water in economically exploitable quantities has been the basis for the drilling of approximately 140,000 wells distributed in 460 aquifers. When the water extraction wells are badly constructed, they offer a contamination route between the outside environment and the aquifers.
