Existen pinturas y tintas que contienen metales y ciertos elementos formando compuestos, las cuales se emplean en la fabricación o recubrimiento de las superficies de artículos de consumo con los que es posible que las personas entren en contacto, planteando, por lo tanto, un riesgo para la salud cuando dichos compuestos son tóxicos.

 

There are paints and dyes that contain metals and certain elements forming compounds which are employed in the manufacture or coating of the surfaces of articles of consumption with which it is possible for persons to enter into contact, creating, therefore, a risk for health when said compounds are toxic.

El riesgo de exposición a ciertos elementos presentes en las pinturas y tintas es mayor en los niños, debido al comportamiento de llevarse a la boca objetos no comestibles, hábito conocido como "pica". Al chupar, lamer o tragar objetos recubiertos con pinturas que contienen elementos metálicos, éstos entran al organismo vía el tracto digestivo.

 

The risk of exposure to certain elements present in paints and dyes is greater in children, due to the behavior of placing in the mouth non edible objects, a habit known as “mouthing”. When sucking, licking, or mouthing objects coated with paints that contain metallic elements, they enter the organism through the digestive tract.
